Twenty years ago, the American Behavioral Scientist presenteda special issue dedicated to the Second Cognitive Revolution:Discursive Revolution. This paper reviews the principal ideas thatgave rise to this perspective, especially Potter and Wetherell (1987) and Edwards and Potter (1992), who even today have great impact innew developments in psychology, particularly social psychology. It isshown how the initial emphasis on discourses as coherent entities isdisplaced to the notions of responsive actions and rhetorical character, placing discourses as practices. Finally, this work describes how thediscursive perspective has a role in current post social constructionistdebate, giving a special quality to social sciences' becoming.
